![]() ![]() The department is short-staffed since a couple of people resigned when she was sworn in and the number of homicides has increased while the budget is being slashed. ![]() It’s been about 4 months since Joanna Brady’s husband was killed and 2 months since being elected Sheriff of Cochise County. While this is the fourth book of the series, it can easily be read as a standalone since the backstory is adequately explained at the beginning of the story. The location is is well researched and it's always fun to have the author include places I've visited in Bisbee. I enjoy this series set in my home state of Arizona. This is a character driven mystery with plenty of twists and turns and a plot that holds your interest. She's willing to take on risk and makes some mistakes, but usually catches the bad guy in the end. Joanna continues to try to make a life for herself and her young daughter after the death of her husband, Andy. New sheriff, Joanna Brady, doesn't think Hal is the arsonist but other, more vocal, members of her staff are working hard to convince everyone he is. Hours earlier, Hal Morgan was outside the clinic passing out MADD fliers. When veterinarian, Bucky Buckwalter, is killed in an arson fire at his clinic, the main suspect turns out to be the husband of a woman Bucky killed in a drunk driving accident. ![]()
